The Independent Woman Experience Series: Learning How to Be Comfortable with the Uncomfortable

Tanya Underwood was laid off right before the pandemic started, but she learned how to turn lemons into lemonade with her network. Tanya tells us about how she learned to network, build confidence, and get a job during a challenging year.

TANYA’s Takeaways:

  • Networking is a give and take. Ask for help, but also look at how you can help other people get to their goals.

  • The people in Tanya’s network helped her remember her confidence, capability, and bravery.

  • Remember your drive. Things will get difficult, but remember that setbacks are temporary and you have a vision.

  • Be an inspiration to others. Tanya wanted to show her son that she could keep going and find fulfillment even during the hard times.

  • It’s hard to talk about yourself sometimes. Practice your elevator pitch and try putting yourself out there.

  • You’re not alone. Other people are searching for jobs and struggling, too.

  • You can take a day off once in a while! Don’t forget to take care of yourself.

  • Listen to your heart.
